Who says men's tennis doesn't have long enough rallies?
In a quarterfinal match Friday at the Cincinnati Open, world No. 2 Andy Murray won a 53-shot point against qualifier Julien Benneteau. It was a fairly big one too as Murray had lost the first set and was down 2-0 in the second. The unforced error for Benneteau gave Murray the break and he would go on to lose just two more games in the match, eventually winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

The point looked like it would be over early, as Benneteau's serve forced a lunging, lobbed return from Murray. But the 55th-ranked Benneteau couldn't put away his subsequent overhead and failed to move Murray around for most of the shots in the rally. After the initial flurry, it was actually a little boring, looking more like warm-ups than a quarterfinal match at a U.S. Open tune-up event.
Benneteau only made it into the main draw in Cincinnati after Juan Martin Del Potro withdrew due to injury.
While theirs was a long rally by ATP Tour standards, Murray and Benneteau's 84-second point was a long ways off the world record. Last August, twin brothers from Connecticut set at Guinness World Record with a rally that lasted 25,944 strokes.
