Powerade-Team Pilipinas rebounded from a poor start to beat Japan, 78-69, Friday night for its second win in the 25th FIBA-Asia men’s basketball championship in Tianjin, China.
The Yeng Guiao-mentored RP 5 trailed for most part of the first half as they let Japan dictate the tempo of the match. The Japanese took a 41-35 lead at the turn.
But Team Pilipinas bounced back in the second half especially in the fourth where they broke out from a tight third quarter contest.
A 16-4 run at the start of the fourth let Team Pilipinas enjoy a 72-57 spread barely four minutes left in the game.
Sonny Thoss finished with 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the RP 5's scoring.
They now prepare for the "real test" when they face also undefeated Korea on Saturday. – GMANews.TV
